Where the practice goes deeper
For years I have taught breath and cold in rivers, on stages and in the snow. The practice is simple, and it is free. The people I teach kept asking me what comes next: what can I measure, what can I add, where can I go deeper?
Lumati is my answer. I co-founded it to build the place I wanted to send them: personalized care, advanced technology and science-informed wellness, held to the same standard as the practice itself.
“We built for members first, and nothing out there met the bar we hold ourselves to: third-party-verified dosing, beautiful engineering, rigor you can stand behind.”

Hi, I’m Sam
I’m a human performance specialist and a former elite athlete. Trained and certified as a Wim Hof Method instructor in 2017, I went on to teach alongside Wim around the world. I collaborate with WHOOP and UCLA Sports Medicine on cold-water immersion research, have been a Kripalu Luminary presenter since 2022, and serve as Co-Founder, Chief Strategy Officer and Board Director of Lumati and a Board Trustee of Xeno Therapeutics. I also became Breathe Certified with Dr. Belisa Vranich in 2023.

Questions people ask
What is breathwork?
Breathwork means using your breath on purpose. Breathing is the one vital function you can steer, so slowing it down, lengthening your exhale or picking up the pace can shift how you feel. I teach it in plain language, with the research alongside, so you can practice with confidence. Start with my breathwork guide.
Where should I start if I'm new?
Start with the free 10-minute guided session and 7-day starter. If you want to wind down, the library has a free 12-minute nervous system reset and a 15-minute deep rest. For gentle deep breathing exercises for anxiety, start with my calm guide. Sit or lie down, go gently, and never practice breath holds in or near water.
What are the fundamentals of longevity?
Longevity isn't a single hack. It's a handful of basics, practiced well and often. The seven I teach, study and live by are breath, cold and heat, sleep and recovery, movement, nourishment, mindset, and community and nature. You can read about each one on my principles page.
How should I start with cold exposure?
Start mild and build up slowly, keep your breathing slow and calm, and get out if you feel unwell. Never practice breath holds in or near water, and talk with your doctor first if you have a heart condition, high blood pressure, are pregnant or have a seizure history. My cold and heat guide walks you through it.
Can I practice with you in person?
Yes. My next program is The Fundamentals of Longevity at Kripalu in Stockbridge, Massachusetts, April 23 to 25, 2027, designed for all levels of experience. I also lead workshops for teams and groups and offer one-to-one mentoring. See programs or reach me through the contact page.
